State Batting Leader McDonald, Chaffey Ace Young Are CCCBCA SoCal Player/Pitcher Of The Week #4
Bakersfield College freshman rightfielder Landon McDonald and Chaffey freshman righthander Trevor Young were selected as the CCCBCA SoCal Player/Pitcher of the Week #4 (Feb. 9-15).
The 6-foot-1 McDonald, from Frontier High in Bakersfield, leads the state in batting with a .550 average and in four games last week, he batted 9-for-16 (.563) with two doubles, a triple, three home runs, four walks, and seven RBI. He hit two bombs in a Renegades loss at Taft. McDonald's 1.225 slugging percentage and 13 extra-base hits overall also top all state batters.
The 6-4 Young, from Don Lugo HS in Chino, pitched a 9-inning, complete game, 3-hit shutout at Oxnard, 4-0, and was able to work around two walks and three hit-by-pitches. Young has a 3.00 ERA in 24 innings pitched thus far for Chaffey.
