Baseball's All-State, All-Region Teams Announced
The CCCBCA has released its All-State and All-Region teams as a number of different players won top awards.
The Northern California All-State Team was led by Position Player of the Year in West Valley College's David Estrada, Pitcher of the Year in Fresno City's Nathan Leffel, Big Stick Award winner in West Valley's Parker Kristall and Freshman of the Year Troy Morrow of Modesto.
The Coach of the Year was Feather River's Terry Baumgartner, whose Golden Eagles team placed third at this past weekend's 3C2A State Championships held at Irvine's Great Park. West Valley's Kai Haake was named Assistant Coach of the Year.
The Southern California All-State Team includes Santa Barbara City's Wylan Nelson as Position Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year, El Camino's Adrian Pineda as Pitcher of the Year, and Big Stick Award to Bakersfield's Landon McDonald. The Coach of the Year and Assistant Coach of the Year went to the 3C2A state champion staff of head coach Tom Nilles and assistant George Carralejo.
The Vikings' Estrada batted .372 and was second in the state in RBI with 74 while adding 20 doubles (tied for fifth) and five home runs. Leffel led the state in WHIP at .83, was second in the state in victories (12-1 record), and tied for second in strikeouts with 118. Kristall batted .390 with 15 HR (tied for third in state), 57 RBI, 22 doubles (tied for third) and 33 stolen bases (fifth). Morrow hit .382 with five HR and 50 RBI.
Santa Barbara's Nelson batted .353 with seven HR and 45 RBI as a batter and excelled on the mound with a perfect 10-0 record, a 2.61 ERA and 97 Ks. Pineda hurled to an 8-1 record, a 1.95 ERA and 90 strikeouts in 87.2 innings. McDonald was the state batting champion at .492, hit 15 homers (tied for third), and added 50 RBI.
